When my mechanic, David, tells me that my car needs new tires, or new anything, my response is always the same: I ask when I can bring the car in and how much time it will take.
The last question I ask is how much it will cost.
That’s not because I don’t care.
It’s because the cost is, for the most part, irrelevant. I know that when David tells me that something needs to be done, it does.
And because of that, I tell everyone, at every opportunity I get, about him.
I’m a walking billboard.
I’ve been taking my cars to David for the last 10 years.
I found him through someone who had been taking their cars to him for the 15 years before that.
Whether you want to retain your best clients, or attract new ones, or magnetize the top talent in the industry, or do any business that is people driven (and, really, what kind of business isn’t?), then you must have walking billboards.
And do the kind of work, and establish the kind of trust, that creates them.
