I’m still shaken, horrified, and saddened by Saturday’s assassination attempt.
And have been thinking about what, if anything, any of us can do about where we find ourselves as a nation.
Perhaps a place to begin is to remember who we are: a still-fledgling democracy across a great expanse of land and people and opinion – a miracle of an experiment — where each citizen has the sacred right to vote and where we abide by the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power.
This might not seem like much right now, but it is a mighty bulwark against devolving into yet another country where Us/Them turns citizens against one another.
We are better than where we find ourselves.
We must be.
History is watching.
