Between where you are and want to be:

  • Intention
  • Action
  • Fortitude
  • Resilience

Intention is needed for setting out on the path.

Your path.

It can change.

But without some target, some direction — however amorphous — you’ll flail.

Action is needed for closing the distance between where you are and where you want to be.

It need not be grand action.

But must be consistent.

One after the other, small steps allow us to traverse great expanses.

Fortitude is needed for the guaranteed setbacks.

Notice that I did not use another word than guaranteed.

You will be challenged, thrown for multiple loops.

And, at some point, likely doubting and questioning.

Fortitude is the grit of perseverance.

And follow through.

Resilience is needed for its flexibility.

To take in new information.

To adjust.

To regroup.

To rest and replenish.

The opposite of elasticity is rigidity.

Fortitude, if not tempered by resilience, can blind us to opportunities.
