Last week, I was invited to deliver the closing keynote at a conference themed on resilience. Speaking on Magnificent Leadership®, which is all about how to transform and transcend uncertainty, seemed a good fit.
As I put the keynote together, and thought about the work I’m doing with clients in the context of an incredibly volatile business climate with wildly uncertain and vacillating pressures of tariffs, supply chain, and the market, (not to mention any challenges in a specific vertical or business), business resilience seemed much more than the traditional understanding of having the capacity to bounce back, to metaphorically get up off the ground after being knocked down.
An additional — and essential — element is required for today: preparedness.
It is preparedness that lends itself to creating options and with them, elasticity.
Rather than fragility.
And it is less costly – in all ways – to be prepared than to remediate.
Anticipatory Initiative℠ – or what I term looking for what’s coming before it arrives — isn’t a nice-to-have or a luxury on your leadership team right now.
It’s a necessity.
And your team’s ability to collectively anticipate is interlocked with Building a Self-Correcting Team®.
That, too, is a necessity.
Because a team that functions with precision and foresight, that anticipates and executes, that delivers and isn’t often mired in the weeds, that makes difficult decisions and knows when to run them by you, that is trusting, empowered, and has enough collective knowledge and experience to discern and pivot accurately?
That’s a team that can meet the demands of our increasingly volatile business world.
And that kind of team – and its leader – are resilient.
