About two months ago, I started taking barre classes.

It is not an exaggeration to say that up until very recently (as in, last week), every time I had to climb stairs, I’d be groaning involuntarily from the discomfort.

My long time go-to’s of running and yoga seemed to be of little significance in this endeavor.

Barre was no joke.

There have been slight improvements, things that I couldn’t do, I now can. But it will be awhile before I have any real proficiency.   I am going to be a beginner for a long time.

The thing about getting better – at anything – is that we first have to accept and tolerate the discomfort of getting there.

On this, there are no shortcuts.
