I’m hearing from leaders that their team members are reluctant to take time off (one CEO said that only 40% of PTO has been used so far this year compared to last).  This can be for a variety of reasons, like a vacation might now mean hanging out in the backyard.


I’m hearing a consistent theme that team members are reluctant to take time off because they’re concerned about job security, or abandoning the ship when there are fewer people to keep it afloat.

As a result, motivation and morale are suffering and general fatigue is rising.

As a leader, you set the example.

And if you take your vacations, team members will feel more comfortable taking theirs.

I know we’ve all been caught in a wormhole in time these last months, feeling like it’s been one big blur.

But running a 10x marathon requires pacing ourselves and adequately refueling.

There is no time like the present for both, particularly before school begins and many children resume learn-from-home.
