I am re-posting a blog that I wrote last summer:
I was looking for a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. that has always been meaningful to me: “…The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
I found it housed in his speech, “Where Do We Go From Here?” believed to be written and delivered in 1967, the year before I was born, and the year before he was assassinated.
I was looking because I needed the reassurance of its words.
And I’d been asking myself how I can more deeply live up to them. (My first stop is this book.)
Because it seems the question before us is this:
Will we, individually, and collectively as a nation, choose to become more than we are now?
Will we — unmistakably and determinedly — bend toward justice?
