Do it well and you’ll reap the rewards many times over while forming new connections, gaining greater knowledge, and helping others.

Internally:

  • Identify the areas of your organization that you curious about and lacking in knowledge and reach out to select leaders to build relationships there
  • Look for opportunities to collaborate on initiatives cross-functionally and bring your team along with you in the effort
  • See the bigger picture and help out your peers even when there is no immediate gain for you, particularly when there is no immediate gain

Externally:

  • Seek opportunities to increase visibility within your industry and outside it; consider speaking at conferences, sitting on panel discussions, or simply attending more events that are of interest
  • Pick a Board, organization, or association where you’d like to learn and contribute and then focus on doing that; choose something meaningful
  • Make spontaneous connections for people in your network whom you think should know one another; there need not be an explicit reason other than you think both would welcome the introduction and benefit

And!  Stay tuned for the Building Self-Correcting Teams page coming to my website soon!  It is the most impactful work I’m invited to do with senior leadership teams, and it’s getting its own page.  In the meantime, if you want to raise the bar from high performance to a team that can anticipate, be accountable, pivot, and still be cohesive and deliver results in the midst of a hurricane of change, contact me here.  It’s an investment that pays dividends immediately and over time and changes the way teams deliver results.
