65% Disengagement. Before the pandemic, before WFH.

That’s what this February Gallup poll reports.

And that was good news, better than prior years.

If you haven’t yet discerned that leadership drives engagement and that engagement is a strategic issue that drives your bottom line, now’s the time to tune in.

The pandemic is a unique opportunity to call forth the best from your team.

To ask for more.

And to get more.

To the benefit of all.

And it’s a unique opportunity to call forth the best from yourself as a leader.

You can choose to take this opportunity, to show team members that they matter and contribute, that they can stretch and that you’ve got their back, that their efforts make a difference for the future, that you value their best thinking and ideas and want to hear them, particularly if those ideas are different from yours.

(Some vehicles for doing this: weekly communication summaries that paint a picture not only of the present but of the future; one-on-ones with individual team members that are genuine check-ins; noticing and naming when there are successes – individual and team — and being as specific as possible when you offer positive feedback; and asking team members to identify challenges and their solutions to create internal best practices.  I’ve had many, many clients transform their teams and their bottom line results using just these tools.)

Leadership drives engagement.

Engagement drives the bottom line.

And when the bottom line suffers, it is to the benefit of no one.

If you are leading, this is the time to shine.
