One of my clients just had a terrific success.

As we discussed all the ways to take advantage of it, I thought I might share 3 of them here:

  1. Look for opportunities — both internally and externally – to share the news. Not in a self-promotional kind of way but in a way that not only celebrates the accomplishment or event and also all those on your team who made it possible.  And your organization.  Look for ways to laud others.  Additionally, look for opportunities inside your organization where your particular success could enable others to have similar successes.  Can it translate across the organization?  Across functions?  Is there a template of sorts that others will find useful?  You’ll be supporting others in their work, fostering collaborations, and making yourself visible to (potentially new) others.  Externally, whenever appropriate, share the good news  – on social, at conferences among peers and colleagues, and when you’re at the podium or sitting on a panel.
  2. Think short and long term. Use the success to immediately create momentum implementing the strategies in #1.  And also think about incorporating it into how you talk about what you do.  Use it as a concrete example in your body of work and experience.  Practice referencing it in a natural, authentic way.
  3. Deconstruct what it is about you that created the success, not just what you did. What you did is important, for sure.  But your skills, capacities, and competencies that generated a particularly important success often translate to other projects and endeavors.  Identify them.  Are these skills you enjoy using?  Derive satisfaction from? Want to employ more often in other situations and challenges?

If you are an executive wondering ‘what’s next’ after corporate, consider joining me and a small group of curated peers for the next Big Work Retreat on October 22+23 in Raleigh at a luxury property located 10 minutes from the airport.

One way to plan for life after corporate is to think about it in the margins, watch your runway grow ever shorter, and then try to find something(s) of interest after the door closes.

Another is to give yourself the gift of time to dream and explore and plan in an immersive program with a highly-curated group of peers who are asking similar questions about soul-nourishing work and creating fulfilling lives in the next chapter.

Come awaken dreams, stretch your thinking, get coaching directly from me tailored to your specific situation, find support and camaraderie among fellow travelers, enjoy gourmet meals, relax in beautiful surroundings, and, yes, make a plan.
